Always a reliable and helpful big brother, John was good-natured, well organised, and very positive. He was chirpy and fun, and his tenet ‘never let the truth get in the way of a good story’ made for the telling of many entertaining yarns! I shall miss all this, and especially our long-distance nostalgia sessions, sharing memories of our early days in Coulsdon and Pembroke. Thanks for being a wonderful brother.

John was a brilliant father-in-law. Always supportive but also practical and caring, more than that though he was such good fun to be around, there was always laughter when he was in the room. I will miss that laugh, his enthusiasm for life, his thoughtful advice and just chatting with him, mostly about sport. I feel so lucky to have had him in my life for so long and that Jemma and Annie had such an amazing Grandad. When we miss him we will look back at all the wonderful times we had together and smile.
